Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean – Launch of the WestMED Tourism Technical Group during Sun&Blue 2024 | 21 November 2024 | Almería, Spain

On 21 November 2024, Sustainable Tourism in the Mediterranean will be the focus of attention as a side event to the Sun&Blue Congress in Almería, Spain.
The programme consist of two parts.

Climate Adaptation in Tourism–Building capacity and policy integration

The first session (from 9:00-11:15), will be the 2nd Joint Annual Forum of the Sustainable Tourism Mission. Regional tourism departments and Destination Management Organizations MO’s will have the opportunity to receive clear and adaptable guidance on developing climate action plans through a Capacity Building session.

The event will culminate in a policy debate on “Adapting and Mitigating Climate Change in Tourism: Strategies & Policies” highlighting the views of a wide range of stakeholders, from representatives of regional tourism networks, environmental and development organisations, corporate ocean responsibility advocates, to initiatives for the sustainable development of the blue economy in the western Mediterranean region.

This event is organised by COMMUNITY4TOURISM and DIALOGUE4TOURISM: two Interreg Euro-MED governance projects of the Enhancing Sustainable Tourism Mission.

Sustaianable Tourism in the Western Mediterranean – Official launch of the WestMED Technical Stakeholder Group on Sustainable Tourism
From 11:30 to 13:30 the event will continue with a session organised by the WestMED initiative, whose main objective is to  “strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of the coastal and maritime tourism sector, as part of a smart and resilient blue economy. This WestMED side event will be the “official launch” of the WestMED’s  technical group on sustainable tourism, as well as serve as a hackathon for some specific project ideas/proposals.
