The GFCM is pleased to inform you that the mid-term event of the Regional Plan of Action for Small-Scale Fisheries in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (RPOA-SSF) will be held within the framework of the Small-scale fisheries (SSF) Summit 2024 on 6-7 July 2024, in Rome, Italy.

This event aims to provide the small-scale fishing sector’s views on the progress made in the implementation of the RPOA-SSF, assessing changing circumstances and shifting priorities, and providing guidance for a more sustainable and resilient SSF sector by 2028.

Designed for small-scale fisheries stakeholders, fishers and fish workers, this event aims to give voice to the SSF sector, facilitating the exchange of ideas and experiences on the way forward. It is also envisaged as an occasion for dialogue with representatives of signatory countries, in view of fostering collective engagement.

This event is addressed to fishers and professionals actively engaged in fishery-related activities or advocating for the fishing community. Women fishers and young fishers are strongly encouraged to pre-register.

Please note that pre-registration does not automatically guarantee participation. Submitted applications will undergo a review process to determine eligibility. Limited financial support from the GFCM is available for small-scale fishers and fish workers. Other applicants are welcome to participate with their own funding. All applicants will be informed of the status of their registration once the review process is complete.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in Arabic, English, French and Spanish, and efforts will be made to accommodate other languages depending on the needs of the participants.

The agenda incl background and links to relevant documents, can be found in this pdf.

Registration: you can pre-register at this link before 15 May 2024.
