WestMED Project Awards 2023

To honour excellent projects that strenghten the Blue Economy in the WestMED region

Free travel and accommodation to the conference 2023 in Malta, a pitching platform and a dedicated coaching session to further elevate your project/ organisation.
Previous award winners gained access to new markets and funding for projects while some were even invited for television appearances.

The 2023 edition of the WestMED Project Awards is now open! (closed as of June 9, 2023)

We invite all stakeholders in the Western Mediterranean Blue Economy to apply for the WestMED Project Awards 2023.

This international project competition aims to showcase and honour outstanding success stories, which provide innovative and replicable solutions embodying the WestMED initiative’s vision for the western Mediterranean.

The WestMED Steering Committee, with support from the WestMED Assistance Mechanism, is organising this 2023 edition of the WestMED Project Awards.

The winners will be announced during the WestMED Stakeholders Conference on 22 June 2023 in Malta. Find out more about the 2023 Conference.

Sustainable Consumption and Production

This includes projects targeting coastal and maritime tourism, sustainable maritime transport, marine renewable energies, innovation -e.g. blue bio-technology- and support for entrepreneurship, creation of maritime clusters.

Biodiversity, Marine Habitat Conservation and response to marine pollution

This includes projects targeting pollution control at sea and land-based level, protection of coastal and marine ecosystems and combating coastal erosion and habitat degradation, maritime safety and governance of the sea.

Sustainable fisheries, Aquaculture and Coastal Community Development

This includes projects targeting sustainable aquaculture development, environmentally friendly fishing practices and fleets and upgrading of the production chain.

Development and Circulation of Skills and Knowledge

This includes projects targeting training and education on maritime issues, networks of maritime research and scientific information sharing.

Eligibility and Application

Project applications may be submited by any individual, organisation, business, group, network, consortium or institution that:

is headquartered, or present in a WestMED Initiative member state: Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain or Tunisia.
has a funded project or initiative that is in progress or completed. A funded project is a group of tasks, actions, activities carried out by a consortium or a grouping within the framework of a larger and longer collaboration. Any type of funded project (at local, regional, national, or European level from public and/or private sources)
has been initiated within 36 months prior to the announcement of this Call.
