Libya is one of the key countries in the Mediterranean, with a coastline of more than 1,900 km, a continental shelf of more than 50,000 square kilometers, more than 70 coastal cities and villages, maritime ports and commercial shipping, fisheries and aquaculture, coastal and maritime tourism, marine protected areas and underwater urban archaeological sites.

These are some of the areas that offer a huge potential to develop an advanced sustainable blue economy in Libya

This first WestMED national event in Libya, organised in close coordination with the Italian National Hub, is an important step and opportunity to coordinate efforts in this respect with a special focus on:

  1. Marine resources
  2. fishery and aquaculture
  3. Marine environment
  4. Maritime transportation
  5. Marine Protected Areas
  6. Green Marine ports
  7. Blue skills

Italian and Tunisian clusters will share their experiences and lessons learnt. To boost the creation of a  national maritime cluster in Tunisia, collaboration will be elaborated via a strategic agreement.

In this event we seek to bring together specialists and other blue economy stakeholders from government institutions, academia, research institutions and the private sector, to start a discussion on the possibilities, opportunities and challenges facing the development of a sustainable blue economy in Libya.

This is an in-person and invitation only event.

For possible access and other questions, please contact the National Hub Italy that is closely supporting this event together with the National Project of Aquaculture in Libya.
