The Blue Tourism Initiative organises the online side eventFostering Sustainable and Inclusive Blue Tourism Towards SDGs” on April 3rd, 2025, at 1.15 PM on Zoom.

This event is organised within the 2025 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (RFSD 2025), which is dedicated to advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda, aiming to discuss strategies for accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The event will focus on how blue tourism governance and practices can drive progress on SDG 14, “Life below water”, with a particular emphasis on coastal and marine ecosystems conservation and climate resilience. It will also address blue tourism’s contribution to SDG 5, “Gender equality”, and SDG 8, “Decent work and economy growth”.

The Blue Tourism Initiative (BTI) partners – IDDRI; eco-union; IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation – will invite the audience to learn and debate how tourism in the Mediterranean can contribute to the SDGs, enhancing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and promoting regional and cross-sectoral collaboration towards a more sustainable and inclusive tourism development.

What will we discuss?
We will explore how blue tourism governance and practices can contribute to:

  • SDG 14 – Life Below Water, with a focus on coastal and marine ecosystem conservation and climate resilience.
  • SDG 5 – Gender Equality, promoting inclusivity in the tourism sector.
