High-level national dialogue on ‘The challenges of integrated governance and the roadmap for implementing the blue economy in Morocco’ | 5 June 2024 | Rabat, Morocco

05 June 2024 - 05 June 2024

Morocco has made significant progress in climate change mitigation and adaptation measures through the submission in 2021 of the new ambition of its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)and the national low-carbon development strategy to 2050 (SNBC). However, the blue economy sectors require additional financial and technical investment to develop the resilience of cities and port infrastructures to the foreseeable repercussions of global warming, and to combat marine pollution.

The Kingdom of Morocco’s Department of Maritime Fisheries, in collaboration with the WestMED initiative, is therefore organising a HIGH-LEVEL NATIONAL DIALOGUE ON THE BLUE ECONOMY, which aims to help forge a common vision among the main players in the blue economy based on a participatory approach by discussing their priorities, sharing best practice and supporting current and future cooperation at national and regional level.

This dialogue will focus on the following key issues, as key drivers for accelerating the implementation of the blue economy in Morocco:

  1. Integrated institutional governance of the blue economy in Morocco
  2. Keys to success for the Energy, Seawater Desalination, Green Hydrogen and Biodiversity Nexus
  3. The need for climate resilience of the national coastline and the fight against marine pollution
  4. Approaches for a national blue tourism strategy in Morocco.
