This year the EU Macro-regional Strategies Week becomes a two-day onsite event where sessions will cover topics of interest to both the Macro-regional strategies and the Sea Basin Strategies.

Under the slogan Strategies4Cooperation, the focus will be on present and future synergies between the seven EU macro-regional and sea basin strategies.

The Macro-Regional and Sea Basin Strategies Days 2024, co-organised by the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), promises an exclusive on-site experience at The Egg, Brussels from June 12 to 13, 2024. This year’s event is poised to be a game-changer, focusing on the four Macro-regional strategies (Alpine, Danube, Adriatic-Ionian, Baltic) and the three Sea Basin Strategies (Atlantic, Western Mediterranean, and Black Sea). The overarching theme, embodied by the hashtag #Strategies4cooperation, underscores the collaborative spirit that will define the discussions, workshops, and interactions throughout the event.

Opening and closing of the event will see the participation of Elisa Ferreira, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Themis Christophidou, Director General for DG REGIO, and Charlina Vitcheva, Director General for DG MARE.

Themes and workshops: A glimpse into the conversations
The event will feature interactive workshops focusing on key thematic areas, aligning with the overarching objectives of the seven strategies:

1. Enlargement: Exploring the possibilities and challenges associated with expanding the reach and impact of the strategies.
2. Climate change: Addressing the urgent need for coordinated efforts in the face of climate challenges, fostering sustainable development.
3. Clusters and innovation: Delving into the realms of innovation and cluster development to drive economic growth and competitiveness.
4. Embedding: Anticipating and adapting to the future landscape of European policies and strategies.
5. Civil society engagement: Recognising the pivotal role of civil societies in shaping and contributing to the success of regional strategies.

In a plenary session dedicated to young voices, participants will witness the vibrant ideas of the next generation, offering their perspectives on the European Union.

Speed-dating with a purpose: Building connections
A unique feature of this event is the speed-dating moment, where stakeholders will have the opportunity to engage in rapid, purposeful conversations with their counterparts from various European Commission services. This dynamic interaction aims to foster collaboration, spark innovative ideas, and build connections that transcend bureaucratic boundaries.
