In 2020, BeMed launched a call for projects aimed at reducing plastic pollution in the Mediterranean islands. Five projects and a capitalisation programme were supported, ending in 2022. To reinforce its impact, BeMed is launching a second edition of this call on 10 April 2024.

The following is a non-exhaustive overview of the rules. Please consult the rules in full before applying:

Types of stakeholders eligible:
all stakeholders whose legal status allows them to receive grants. Under this call for projects, each organisation may submit only one individual and/or one joint application.

Eligible geographical areas:
The project must target a Mediterranean island (or group of islands) of any size, whether inhabited or not, in any of the countries around the Mediterranean. The following countries will be given priority: Egypt, Lebanon, Albania, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Turkey and Montenegro.

The Capitalisation programme is back again this year ! To be eligible, projects must include participation in this programme (see section 3.3 of the regulations).

Type of eligible actions:
The call only concerns actions carried out as part of an ongoing project, which complement or extend a completed project, which reproduce actions/methodologies developed elsewhere whose effectiveness has been demonstrated, or actions which have a strong territorial base.

Priority topics: Reducing the use of plastics, reuse or re-employment systems, agriculture and fisheries, tourism, cruises and maritime transport.

Amount of funding:

– BeMed’s maximum support for each project will be €100,000.

– BeMed support may not exceed 70% of the total amount of the project

Duration of supported projects: 24 months maximum

Start of projects: projects will be starting from February 2025
