Second AQUARIUS Funding Call | Marine and Freshwater Infrastructure Access | Deadline 28 October 2025

The AQUARIUS project has officially opened its Second Transnational Access (TA) Funding Call, offering a unique opportunity for researchers, industry professionals, and citizen science groups to access cutting-edge marine and freshwater research infrastructures across Europe.

Running from 2 September to 28 October 2025, this call supports the EU Mission Restore Our Ocean and Waters by 2030” by enabling collaborative, cross-border research initiatives. 

Who Can Apply?

Researchers from academia, public bodies, industry, and civil society organisations and both EU and non-EU user groups can apply, though access for non-EU groups is capped at 20% of the total access units.

What’s Offered?

  • Free access to selected research infrastructures.
  • Logistical, technological, and scientific support, including training and vessel mobilization.
  • Travel and subsistence costs covered up to a specified limit.
  • Support for mobile infrastructures like drones and ROVs, including transport to work areas

Budget and Evaluation

The AQUARIUS initiative has allocated €8.1 million for transnational access, including travel support. Projects will be evaluated based on:

  • Scientific excellence
  • Logistical feasibility
  • Value for money

Budgets per project may reach €1 million or more for large, integrated proposals, while smaller, lower-cost projects are equally welcome.
