Led by Mr. Carlos Botana, President of the Port Authority of Vigo, Pillar I has made significant progress in defining the role of ports in the energy transition. The initiative has explored potential energy sources and developed prototypes to guide ports through this transformation.
The Port of Vigo has also advanced protocols for climate change adaptation and is ready to share its insights, fostering a collaborative discussion among EU ports on how to better prepare for climate-related challenges.
We invite stakeholders, experts, and port authorities to join us for this important dialogue. Don’t miss the opportunity to engage, learn, and network with peers across the EU.

About Pillar 1 of the Atlantic Action Plan – focused on Ports
This pillar recognizes the strategic role of ports in driving the blue economy and regional development. It promotes:
- Modernization and diversification of port activities beyond traditional shipping, including renewable energy, aquaculture, and tourism.
- Sustainable infrastructure upgrades to reduce environmental impact and improve climate resilience.
- Digitalization and smart port technologies to enhance efficiency, safety, and connectivity.
- Integration with hinterland logistics to improve multimodal transport and reduce bottlenecks.
- Cross-border cooperation among Atlantic ports to share best practices and foster innovation.
The goal is to position Atlantic ports as innovation hubs that support clean energy transitions, circular economy models, and inclusive growth across coastal regions
